Wix accessibility checker
Check any page of your Wix site against WCAG 2.2 level AA in about 10 seconds, as visitors see it. Free, no sign-up.
Start with the Wix Accessibility Wizard
Wix has its own checker. In the editor, open Settings > Accessibility Wizard and scan your site: it checks against WCAG 2.2 and lists detected issues and manual tasks, page by page. Use it; it can fix some things for you, such as alt text and heading tags.
By Wix’s own description, the wizard doesn’t scan everything: it skips CMS content, external and third-party apps, Velo code, password-protected pages, the side cart and checkout, and several Wix apps such as Reviews, Pricing Plans, Site Search and Table Reservations. It also checks only your site’s main language. Perceivly tests the published page in a real browser, so it sees whatever the page renders, apps and CMS content included.
Where to fix common issues in Wix
Image alt text
Click the image, open its Settings and fill in What’s in the image?. In galleries, the image title is used as alt text (the Pro Gallery has its own Alt Text field). To mark an image as decorative, use the Accessibility Wizard: under Add alt text to images, check This image is decorative, it doesn’t need alt text.
Headings
Select a text box, choose Edit Text, and set the tag under SEO & Accessibility (in Wix Studio, use the Inspector panel). Wix recommends one H1 per page, heading levels in order, and no headings in the site header.
Color contrast
The wizard’s Improve color contrast step flags text below 4.5:1 (3:1 for large text). Text on top of images and video backgrounds is worth a second look after any design change.
Forms
Wix says forms built with the old Wix Forms are not accessible, so rebuild those with the current forms. For each field, open Settings, turn on Show field title and write a clear title instead of relying on placeholder text.
Page language
Set it in the dashboard under Settings > Language & Region > Site language. On Wix Multilingual sites the main language can’t be changed after setup.
Custom code and third-party widgets
Code added under Settings > Development & integrations > Custom Code, and widgets from other vendors, are outside what Wix tests or supports, and outside the wizard’s scan. Check the pages where they appear. Wix adds a skip-to-main-content link to sites built with Wix automatically.
What Perceivly adds
The Wix wizard is a one-off check inside the editor. Perceivly checks the live site on a schedule, tracks each issue until it is fixed, and gives you PDF reports and a hosted accessibility statement. In the WebAIM Million 2026, Wix home pages averaged 33.3 detected errors, below the 56.1 average, so many Wix sites start in good shape; monitoring helps keep it that way. See monitoring.
What the scan checks
Automated rules from WCAG 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2, levels A and AA, using the open-source axe-core engine. Among them:
- Text and background color contrast
- Text alternatives for images
- Labels on form fields
- Names on buttons and links
- Page language and title
- Valid ARIA roles and attributes
- Keyboard access to scrollable areas
- Touch target size (WCAG 2.2)
What needs a person
Automated tests find only part of accessibility issues; published estimates range from about 30% to 57%. These need a person:
- Whether alt text actually describes the image
- Whether everything works with a keyboard alone, in a sensible order
- Captions and audio descriptions that match the media
- Clear headings, labels and error messages
- How the page behaves with screen readers and zoom
Questions
- Wix has an Accessibility Wizard. Why use another checker?
- Use both. The wizard runs inside the editor and, by Wix's own description, doesn't scan CMS content, third-party apps, Velo code or several Wix apps. Perceivly tests the published page as visitors get it, and can re-check the whole site on a schedule.
- Where do I add alt text in Wix?
- Click the image, open Settings and fill in 'What's in the image?'. Decorative images can be marked as decorative in the Accessibility Wizard.
- Do I need to add an accessibility toolbar to my Wix site?
- No. Wix itself says a toolbar is not a requirement for WCAG. Fixing the issues in the site does more for visitors.
- Can the checker find every issue on my Wix site?
- No. Automated tests find only part of WCAG issues. Keyboard use, meaningful alt text and screen reader behavior still need a person to review.
