Free website accessibility checker
Check any web page against WCAG 2.2 level AA in about 10 seconds. You get a score, the most important issues with screenshots, and how to fix each one. Free, no sign-up.
How it works
- Enter the address of any public web page.
- We open it in a real browser and run more than 60 automated WCAG checks.
- You get a score, the issues ranked by impact, the failing elements, and how to fix them.
What the checker tests
Automated rules from WCAG 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2, levels A and AA, using the open-source axe-core engine. Among them:
- Text and background color contrast
- Text alternatives for images
- Labels on form fields
- Names on buttons and links
- Page language and title
- Valid ARIA roles and attributes
- Keyboard access to scrollable areas
- Touch target size (WCAG 2.2)
What it can’t test
Automated tests find only part of accessibility issues; published estimates range from about 30% to 57%. These need a person:
- Whether alt text actually describes the image
- Whether everything works with a keyboard alone, in a sensible order
- Captions and audio descriptions that match the media
- Clear headings, labels and error messages
- How the page behaves with screen readers and zoom
Questions
- Is the checker really free?
- Yes. You can check one page at a time without an account. Monitoring whole sites on a schedule will be a paid plan.
- Does a good score mean my site is compliant?
- No. A score of 100 means no automated check failed on that page. Laws such as the European Accessibility Act and the ADA also cover things only a manual review can confirm.
- Which standard do you test against?
- WCAG 2.2 levels A and AA, which includes all of WCAG 2.0 and 2.1. The EAA refers to EN 301 549, which is based on WCAG.
- Is this an overlay?
- No. Perceivly never changes your site. It finds issues so your team can fix them in the code, where they stay fixed.
- What happens to the results?
- Each check gets a private link that you can share. Anyone with the link can see the results, so don’t share it if the page is confidential.
