Heading structure checker
Paste the HTML of a page or part of one. You’ll see its heading outline and any structure problems.
Why headings matter
Screen reader users often move through a page by its headings, like a table of contents (WCAG 1.3.1 and 2.4.6). A clear outline with one h1 and no skipped levels makes that work.
What this checker can’t judge
It checks structure, not meaning. Whether each heading describes its section well still needs a person to read it.
Questions
- Is a skipped level a WCAG failure?
- Not by itself, but it often means the headings don’t reflect the page’s real structure, which can fail 1.3.1. It also confuses people navigating by headings.
- Does my pasted HTML leave my computer?
- No. The check runs in your browser.
